A panel PC is an industrial computer that is installed into a cover panel, often is fanless, and typically has a number of useful I/O interfaces. Here I install a Cincoze P2002 panel PC from Logic Supply into a new plant phenotyping machine. The machine will help researchers measure plant performance and predict which plants will to produce more food. I had hoped to avoid the need for a PLC by using GPIO pins on the panel PC, but they don’t work well with Linux currently. The PoE ports will eliminate the need for a separate power injector. The panel PC is installed into a Misumi cover panel to create a clean and professional look. Industrial switches (from Automation Direct) are also discussed and installed.
